Welcome to Grade Four!!

Dear Students, Welcome to Grade 4! I am very happy to have you in my class this year. We are really going to enjoy this year. We will be learning many new things and you will be making many new friends. Please let me know if you have something to share or if you do not understand something, or if you are upset. I am a really good listener! I am excited about the opportunity to get to know you and I am looking forward to a happy and productive school year.
Dear Parents or Guardians,
Hello! My name is Mrs. Reda and I will be you child's fourth grade teacher. I am looking forward to a wonderful year with your child. In order for a student to learn, I strive to consistently maintain a warm, safe and inviting environment. Welcome to my blog, this site will be updated weekly with homework assignments, trip information and general classroom and school news. I believe reading is very important, that is why I have created a "Reading Tree" in the classroom. Please encourage your child to read at least 20 minutes a day. I have provided you with some helpful sites you and your child can visit. If you have and questions or concerns or if you would like to visit our classroom or volunteer to help out, please feel free to contact me. Once again, I would like to welcome everyone and let's work together to make this the best year ever!

Our Class Reading Tree

Students, I have created a "Reading Tree" in our classroom, please add books to our reading tree that you have been reading and would recommend to fellow classmates. I hope to see our list grow!

Math: Measurement

Our new unit in math is measurement, by the end of this unit you will be able to estimate, measure and record length using a variety of strategies. Here is a sample problem you can begin working on: if you wake up at 7:30a.m., and it takes you 10 minutes to eat your breakfast, 5 minutes to brush your teeth, 25 minutes to get washed and get dressed, 5 minutes to get your backpack ready, and 20 minutes to get to school, will you be at school by 9:00 a.m.? Please remember to bring in a ruler!
www.apples4theteacher.com/math.html is a great website to practice your skills in measurement.

Language Arts

Hello grade four's, I hope you have all enjoyed reading "Bridge to Terabithia". I thought it was a great book! After completing our "Friendhip Survey", you will write a poem about friendship. The title will be, "What is a Friend? A friend is someone..... " This writing assignment will allow you to make personal connections that you can relate to. This will be due next Friday.

Science: Life Systems, Habitats and Communities

Hello Grade Four's, we have stared our unit on Habitiats this week. Your final culminating task will be to create a diorama of a habitat of your choice. You will need to bring in material for your diorama in the following weeks so that you will be prepared to work on it in class. By the end of this unit, you will be able to describe ways in which humans can change habitats. You will also be able to understand the concepts of habitats and identify the factors that could affect habitats and you will be able to apply this in your diorama.
Here is a helpful website for you to begin your research, http://www.edselect.com/grade-42.htm
